Post WoT meet!

Hello Chaps!

I was thinking the other month how it'd be lovely to have a meet for us all,
past, present and future, who have posted here once the WoT series is over.
We'd need to arrange it a few months after the release of the final book, so
we'd all have read it, and in a neutral country (Belgium perhaps), that's
good for us all, considering we're from all over the world.

What do you guys think? As for where, well it's bound to be a pain for
some, but by arranging it in good time, people can save and plan for the
meet! Obviously we'd need to know when the book's released...so that may
make it harder. But still, it's something to think about!

Sounds good. We've been trying to meet you for years. But apparently
coming to Glasgow from Manchester was too much work, when we came from
Finland.

We'll see how it goes in the next couple of years, my borther might be
moving to the UK.

Are we expecting the next book in 2011 or 2012?

I really doubt we're going to get any Americans if we host it anywhere
else in the world, which is what I meant by minimal investment. And I
wouldn't even be against going to America for a visit, except for the
fact that if it's this year the baby is going to be a difficulty, and
I don't want to go through US Customs. Ever. Especially not if they
take DNA and fingerprints and things. Fuck those guys.

They've got things going badly enough at the moment that a lot of USAns don't
want to either. Not to mention how screwed up even interstate flying is here
these days.

I think we should hold the gathering in Holland. And get Contro to do
a reading. While on drugs.

...

Actually Holland could be a good deal. KLM flies everywhere so it
should be easy, and it's dirt cheap from most places too. And Holland
is sort of central to all of us.

The only alternative which is equally far and therefore equally fair
for everybody is ... *dramatic pause* the centre of the Earth!

While on drugs.

Well it's good for me! I think the main problem is that the group has
past the peak days of 10 years ago, so the momentum probably isn't
there, which is a shame. So getting the Americans on board is going to
be even harder.

Even drugs probably won't pull them in!

yes...it should be...I'm not sure that there's the momentum as there
was, which is a shame. I think, like you always say, Facebook is to
blame for that. Or just the growth of the internet in general, as back
in the day, there wasn't as much to do on it as there is now. Also, the
newness of the internet meant it was far more novel to write in places
like this.

Never did have that term explained to me...
Seppo = septic tank = yank.

It's Cockney rhyming slang. Or at least, "tin tank" is Cockney rhyming
slang for "yank", and "septic tank" is the slightly cruder version
that adjusts for how full of shit Americans are.

Also, it is a nice illustration of how the rest of the world doesn't
give a shit that "yanks" are only the northern-states Americans who
fought on the whateverthefuck side of the Civil War.Yanks are
Americans.

Hello Chaps!
How did you know what I was wearing?
LOL I know your type!
Post by Contro
I was thinking the other month how it'd be lovely to have a meet for us all,
past, present and future, who have posted here once the WoT series is over.
We'd need to arrange it a few months after the release of the final book, so
we'd all have read it, and in a neutral country (Belgium perhaps), that's
good for us all, considering we're from all over the world.
Sounds good. We've been trying to meet you for years. But apparently
coming to Glasgow from Manchester was too much work, when we came from
Finland.
LOL well I was financially unviable at the time, but now I should be okay.
It's a pain really, and I wish I could have made it.
Post by Contro
see how it goes in the next couple of years, my borther might be
moving to the UK.
Oh right! Well that'll certainly make it easier to see him!
Post by Contro
Are we expecting the next book in 2011 or 2012?
Well I don't know really...I guess whenever the next book is out and we've
read it...probably 2012 I imagine!
Post by Contro
What do you guys think? As for where, well it's bound to be a pain for
some, but by arranging it in good time, people can save and plan for the
meet! Obviously we'd need to know when the book's released...so that may
make it harder. But still, it's something to think about!
I think I'm in.
Let's see if we get any other takers.

We have a lot of Americans who might join. Drr. Nick and Shannon and
Sharon, Vamps ... heh. Vamps.

Shannon and Sharon at least have done Europe, we met them in Norway a
few years back when Shannon was there for work. They're back in the
States now though.

Most of them just won't be very likely to want to leave America. They
just don't see the point. I don't know, maybe Aaron can explain it
better (and less offensively towards Americans).

I should go through my Bestiary, see what names we can come up with.
Then get on the Monkeyhouse Facebook page and start plugging. It would
be nice if they could come back to the group, but I have accepted that
they are giant lame bastards.

Sure, I can explain it. We're cheap bastards, and it's too expensive
to fly out of country.

not embarrassed to admit that I'm cheap. Dunno about Shannon or Sharon

to give her time to read the books after TEOTW. A day or two?

That'll do it. Same as it's cheap enough for us to fly 'most anywhere
in Europe, but getting to America ... actually it's also fairly cheap,
what was it, a couple of hundred euros to get to New York?

Maybe they just don't do cheap flights the other way around.

It's still the Customs issue I'm most concerned about when it comes to
flying into America, though.

Not wanting to get too political, but with the Nationalistic Finnish

I should go through my Bestiary, see what names we can come up with.
Then get on the Monkeyhouse Facebook page and start plugging. It would
be nice if they could come back to the group, but I have accepted that
they are giant lame bastards.
Well I think once the series ends, a lot of folk will come back for
old-time's sake, so be prepared!
Well actually maybe a few of us have always thought about you guys and finally broke down and went to "google" as being the "best" for the fan groups :) Ok maybe only I did.

See, now that sounds like a plan :D

I went to the US about 2 years ago and had no trouble at all in
customs. Stitch has had one bad experience a few years ago, but just
because he had the misfortune to run into an officious oaf, that can
happen anywhere in the world.

Dont try the UK. We went over from Finland with an Aussie mate, and
while me and my finnish friend walked easily through the customs, my
friend with the australian passport spent the better half of an hour
there explaining his reason for coming. And this was John Lennon
airport, not London or anything.

Jussi, I am surprised at you.

This is an all-too-obvious opening for a joke along the lines of, "the
UK government has put a lot of effort into getting Australians *out*

get back *in* is going to get a lot of attention."

And you missed it. For shame.

Grand!
Uncertain.

No, that's when the end of the world is. The last book comes out several
months after that.

ahh I see! Then I guess the wheel will start over again, and we'll be
back circa 1997 or something with Chucky and Mr C taking over the group!

I'm ready. Of course, if we really want to start all over again, we'll
need Sastan, whose name has faded to myth and the myth long forgotten.

No chance of that, she's looking after me. But then, my parents are

And it was snakes and foxes, not snakes and ladders. Although in this
world, of course, or this turning of the Wheel, it might be snakes and
ladders. Only way I could ever win that game was by cheating, too, so
they could well be related.

Damn it, the groups are dying again. I'm going to have to phone-post
the next few books' worth of re-read points, since I'm still couch-
bound. I'm up to Crossroads of Twilight now. There's an exciting and
action-packed book.

It was really more low-grade sarcasm than facetiousness, but you're in
the ballpark.

haha, the part where the hellhounds in the distance threaten to make

knew it wasn't worth the effort to get involved in the book!

Bahahahaha, so true. That looked like being perilously close to
getting a little bit interesting for a second there, but they had a
lucky escape into the lands of Boring Nonevent.

Hello Chaps!
How did you know what I was wearing?
Post by Contro
I was thinking the other month how it'd be lovely to have a meet for us all,
past, present and future, who have posted here once the WoT series is over.
We'd need to arrange it a few months after the release of the final book, so
we'd all have read it, and in a neutral country (Belgium perhaps), that's
good for us all, considering we're from all over the world.
Sounds good. We've been trying to meet you for years. But apparently
coming to Glasgow from Manchester was too much work, when we came from
Finland.
We'll see how it goes in the next couple of years, my borther might be
moving to the UK.
Are we expecting the next book in 2011 or 2012?
The good news is that we should be getting the book around 22 Dec 2012
The bad news is that according to the Mayan Calendar, the world comes to an
end on 21 Dec 2012.
I guess we'll never really find out what happens in the last book.

Sure, why not?
Speaking of another sequel, that ff, George RR Martin, finally finished
Dance of Dragons to be released this July. I was sure he was going to croak
first.

Look more closely at the announcement; he DIDN'T say he was finished yet. He
said that for sure it'd be released this July, no fooling this time.

(Normally by this point that does mean it's finished & being processed. But
fool us eleventy-nine times, shame on us.)

Not so sure this time...announcement came from Amazon as a pre-order with a
ship date. They've been pushing the estimated release date to 2012 prior to
this.
One can hope. :)
